1. What is the degree offered by DoMS IITR?
The degree being offered is "Masters in Business Administration".
2. Apart from the CAT form, do I need to fill a separate form for admission to MBA course at IIT Roorkee ? If yes, when and how ?
Yes, a separate online form has to be filled for MBA at IIT Roorkee. The application process begins from 12th January and ends on 27th January. The price of the application form is Rs. 2000 for the General and OBC candidates, Rs. 1000 for those belonging to SC/ST and Physically Handicapped categories. No application fee is needed for the girl applicants.
3. Do we have to choose a specialization in second year or is it a general MBA?
Department offers dual specialization in any of the two functional areas: Marketing, Finance, Operations, Human resource management and Information technology. Students have to opt for any two specializations during second year.
4. What is the Fee Structure for academic year 2012-2013?
Program fee (Tuition fee) for the regular candidates is Rs 35000 per semester and for sponsored candidates is Rs. 60000 per semester. Apart from this candidates have to pay for security, mess charges, hostel and other institute charges. SC/ST candidates are exempted from paying tuition fee. The above fees are subject to change and the exact amount payable by the students shall be communicated at the time of admission.
5. Difference in the Fee structure between the General Candidates and OBC candidates?
There is no difference in fee structure for General and OBC candidates.
6. What is the total intake for 2012-2013?
Total intake for MBA program is 95. Reservations applicable as per Government of India rules.
7. Specialization Offered at DoMS IIT Roorkee?

8. Student-Faculty ratio at DoMS IIT Roorkee?
There are 9 "Core faculty”, 3 “Joint faculty” and 3 “Institute faculty” for 160 students which works out to a faculty ratio of 1:11. If one includes the visiting faculty, the ratio will be better.
9. Does the college help in getting loan for fees?
All the documents required for loan will be provided to students who apply, by the institute. Students can avail the scholars’ loan at 12.25%, floating (0.5% less for girls) interest from SBI at the campus itself.
10. When does the academic year start?
The academic year will start approximately in the 3rd week of July
GD-PI related Queries
1. What are the selection criteria for getting a GD/PI call?
Short listing of candidates for GD/PI is done on the basis of performance in CAT 2011. Candidates have to appear for CAT (Common Admission Test) conducted by IIMs
2. Does the previous work experience have any weightage in selection criteria?
Work experience doesn’t have any weightage in initial shortlisting for GD/PI. However, there is 5% weightage in the final selection.
3. What is the eligibility criterion for applying?
Bachelor’s degree in any discipline of Engineering/Technology with first class or its equivalent, or a Master’s degree with first class or equivalent in any discipline from a recognised Institution or University. Final year students are also eligible to apply.
Candidates of General/OBC category seeking admission to the MBA program must have at least 60% marks or CGPA of 6.00 on a 10 point scale at qualifying degree level; but for SC/ST/PD category candidates, this percentage is 55% or 5.50 CGPA on a 10 point scale. The percentage will be considered on the basis of aggregate marks/CGPA awarded in qualifying degree examination.
4. At which locations GD-PI process will be conducted?
GD-PI process will be from 16th March 2012 to 19th March 2012, at DoMS IITR.
5. Will there be any increase in intake this year?
No, there is no increase in intake this year.
6. Will my request for re-scheduling of GD/PI slot entertained?
Last time it was done on case to case basis. There may be a different process for slotting this time.
7. When will the result of MBA admissions be announced?
The results of MBA admissions will be announced one month after the personal interaction. Please keep checking the website for updates.
8. If I am shortlisted for GD/PI, then will IIT R provide any accommodation for attending? Also will it be only for the candidate or parent/guardian can also avail?
Accommodation in the campus will be provided to candidates attending the GD/PI at a nominal charge of 200-250/- per day. However the accommodation facilities are subject to availability on a first come first serve basis. These facilities are open only for candidates and no parent/guardian shall be entertained in this regard.
Placement Related Queries
1. What was the average, median package offered last year?
Average salary – 9.83 lacs and median salary – 8.81 lacs was offered for the 2011 batch.
2. What is the current scenario of summer placements and executive placements?
Currently, the summer placements for batch 2011-2013 as well as executive placements for batch 2010-2012 are on full swing. Many companies have visited the campus and many more are expected. However, the details cannot be disclosed as of now. The placement report shall be uploaded soon.
MBA Application Queries
1. As Transaction ID is unique, can it be used as challan no.?
Yes, Transaction ID and challan number are the same.
2. What details are to be filled in “Add Educational Details”?
In the “Add Educational Details”, the details of 10th, 12th as well as graduation are to be mentioned.
3. What subjects are to be filled in B.E./B.Tech.?
You can fill in 5-6 subjects of B.E./B.Tech. that you are confident about and you think are relevant to your discipline(such as IT, CSE, etc).
4. What to do if data is not getting saved at any stage?
After filling all the information, check whether all the validations are satisfied, i.e. no asterisk sign should be visible.
5. What testimonials (documents and annexures) are to be sent alongwith the application form?
You need to send the following documents alongwith the application:
1. Copy of marksheets and certificates of 10th, 12th and B.Tech
2. Joining letter and latest salary slip as proof of work-ex.
3. Copy of CAT Score card.
4. Challan Copy (Institute copy)
5. Copy of Document stating your category in case of OBC/SC/ST/PH
6. Medical certificate needed in case of only the PH candidates, but others will also need to get it at the time of admission or interview.
Photocopies required at the time of application need not be attested. You can send them in as it is.
6. What if the activation link to activate online account is not received on mail?
Check your spam folder. Wait for some time. However if you still do not receive the activation mail, contact pgadm@iitr.ernet.in
7. Is there any sectional cutoff for admission to DoMS, IIT Roorkee?
No, there is no sectional cutoff for admission to DoMS, IIT Roorkee.
8. What if I don’t have work experience certificate? Is there any alternative?
A copy of joining and relieving letter along with the last payslip will suffice.
9. Do I need to send any recommendations alongwith the application?
Although not mandatory, if you have recommendations by your faculty (if still in college) or your supervisor, you may very well send them in.
10. If I have back papers and I send two marksheets, as the latest one will only show the marks of previously failed/improved subjects, then will it affect my call from IITR?
GD/PI calls are only based on CAT scores. This will not affect your call from DoMS, IITR.
11. I lost a marksheet of one semester, but I have a provisional marksheet downloaded from the university website. Would that suffice?
For sending alongwith the form, you may send in the provisional downloaded marksheet. However try and obtain a copy from your university at the earliest, as you shall be required to bring in the originals for the GD/PI.
12. What if I made a mistake in my form and I have already mailed it?

13. Do I need to send my application by registered/speed post only? Can I not send it by courier?
You can send it by courier, only it is not a preferred method.
